The Flash: 10 best Barry and Iris West-Allen moments
6. Iris proves why she’s The Flash’s lightning rod
“Enter Flashtime” was a triumph on all-fronts, earning itself a place among The Flash‘s all-time greatest episodes, but it also featured a scene that illustrated exactly why Iris West-Allen is so crucial to The Flash’s story.
With Barry seemingly out of options and a nuclear bomb threatening to destroy Central City, he turns to his love for comfort. Sweaty and defeated, he brings her into Flashtime and essentially tells her that they’re out of time and doesn’t know what to do. Iris, however, has an idea and reminds him that the lightning storm from the Speed Force could save the day.
In that moment, Iris proved beyond all shadow of a doubt that she is, and always will be, Barry’s lighting rod.
5. Iris’ fakeout death/Iris survives Savitar
There are few words to describe the wave of emotion that overcame us whenever we truly thought The Flash was about to kill off Iris West in Season 3. The slow-motion shots of Barry and Iris’ defeated facial expressions, the voiceover of Iris’ vows and the realization that the whole season had been for nothing all went a long way in making it seem like The Flash was about to make the same mistake as Arrow and kill off its leading lady. Thankfully, the writers knew better than that and simply designed this scene so that it would tear our hearts out – oh, and it did.
On the other hand, their quiet, tearful reunion in the following episode when the Scarlet Speedster realized that his lightning rod was still alive was equally as powerful. And because the whole season hadn’t been for nothing after all, it was a subtle and moving moment that effectively allowed us to breathe the same sigh of relief that Barry did when he embraced Iris.
