The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will allow two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most popular characters to flourish even more-so than their film appearances did as they star in the upcoming Disney+ series.

Centering on Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), the upcoming Disney+ show is one of the most anticipated that the streaming service will have to offer. But when does the show make its presence felt?

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier premiere date

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was initially supposed to debut in August 2020, making it the very first of the Disney+ MCU shows to arrive on our screens. The outbreak of the novel coronavirus made that impossible as the complete shutdown of production resulted in shooting delays and the cast and crew were not able to return in time to complete filming.

WandaVision will now become the first Marvel original to hit the streamer in December, while The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is now expected to arrive in March 2021.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier cast

The six-episode series features a rather compact cast of characters. Anthony Mackie will return as the future Captain America Sam Wilson/Falcon while Sebastian Stan will also reprise his role as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier.

Joining them are fellow MCU regulars Daniel Brühl who returns as Baron Helmut Zemo, Emily VanCamp who brings Sharon Carter back to screens and Georges St-Pierre returns as mercenary Georges Batroc.

Wyatt Russell will portray John Walker while Carl Lumbly, Adepero Oduye, Desmond Chaim, Erin Kellyman, Noah Mills and Miki Ishikawa have been cast in mystery roles.

What is The Falcon and The Winter Soldier about?

Set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the upcoming miniseries will follow the adventures of Sam and Bucky as they seek to honor their friend Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) by continuing his legacy.

They’ll do that as Sam attempts to take over the Captain America mantle and Bucky tries to redeem himself for the unspeakable deeds he was forced to do as the Winter Soldier.
