Rumor: Swamp Thing to be renewed for a second season by The CW
Swamp Thing was unjustly cancelled by DC Universe before its first season even finished, but according to a new rumor, the series could be renewed for season 2 by The CW.
Swamp Thing proved to be a major success for DC Universe when it debuted in May 2019. It received approval from fans and acclaim from critics, all of whom praised it for its dark tone and clever reinvention of the titular character. And yet, for some strange reason, the streaming service cancelled it less than a week later. However, it seems that Swamp Thing season 2 may be about to become a reality.
The show recently made its TV debut on The CW. The network’s usual original programming (bar Supernatural) was unable to air in its usual slots this year because of the delays so it acquired some streaming programming instead. Given The CW’s affinity for DC programming through its Arrowverse shows, it made sense to add Swamp Thing to the line-up.
Is Swamp Thing season 2 happening?
According to a new rumor from insider Mikey Sutton, the show could be about to receive a second chance from none other than DC Comics’ network TV home. Sutton had originally speculated on the JLS Comics YouTube channel that the show could get a revival if its TV debut performs well for the network and, well, “well” would be an understatement.

Swamp Thing‘s premiere episode drew 1.1 million viewers – the highest audience The CW has had since the premiere of former DC Universe series Stargirl, its follow-up episode maintained most of the audience, drawing in 0.8 million.
Now, Sutton has revealed that The CW is “seriously considering” bringing the show back for a second season. And considering the network recently picked up Stargirl prior to the fall of the DC Universe as we know it, it does seem quite possible – especially when you consider that CW President Mark Pedowitz teased back in May that it would be a conversation Warner Bros. and The CW could have in the future.
