Stargirl and Starman to unite as they lead new project
Brec Bassinger and Joel McHale will be leading an all-star cast in a new sci-fi podcast, giving us the Stargirl and Starman reunion we didn’t know we needed.
Former DC Universe series Stargirl will return to The CW sometime next year, where stars Brec Bassinger and Joel McHale will undoubtedly cross paths at some point or another. Until then, however, the pair will be co-leading a different project.
As revealed by Deadline, Bassinger and McHale will join Love, Victor‘s Michael Cimino, It‘s Chosen Jacobs and Cobra Kai‘s Jacob Bertrand in taking part in a new scripted science fiction podcast Black Box from Reverb Podcasts and Soundproof Media.
Bassinger, Cimino, Bertrand and Jacobs will all portray the main teenagers who stumble upon the wreckage of a crashed time machine, leading to them getting themselves involved in a time conspiracy. Meanwhile, McHale will voice a scientist whose own ambition threatens to take him down a villainous path.
Stargirl and Starman unite for the first time
What’s rather striking about the podcast is the fact that it will unite Bassinger and McHale for possibly the first time. If you haven’t seen Stargirl be warned there are SPOILERS for season 1 ahead.

The pair both appear in Stargirl but have yet to actually cross paths. Bassinger portrays the lead role as Courtney Whitmore is a teenager who takes on the mantle of Starman. And speaking of the Star-Spangled Hero, McHale plays Starman/Sylvester Pemberton – who died a decade before Stargirl’s debut when battling the Justice Society of America.
They could end up crossing paths in season 2, however, as Starman made a shocking return in the season 1 finale. But whether the two heroes share some scenes together in the future or not, Black Box will undoubtedly give us that long-awaited chance to hear Bassinger and McHale work together.
