The Umbrella Academy reportedly renewed for a third season; filming to begin next year

The Umbrella Academy season 3 has yet to be officially announced by Netflix but production on the third season will reportedly begin early next year.

The Umbrella Academy is among Netflix’s most successful shows. The Dark Horse comics adaptation has enjoyed two successful TV seasons in as many years. The latest of those spent much of the summer in the streaming service’s most-watched shows, leaving fans anticipating a renewal announcement.

It’s been a number of months now and Netflix has yet to actually reveal if The Umbrella Academy has been renewed for season 3. That doesn’t, however, mean the service hasn’t already made its decision.

Has The Umbrella Academy been renewed for season 3?

According to Production Weekly (H/T: What’s On Netflix and Screenrant), production on The Umbrella Academy season 3 will begin on February 1, 2021 and run until August of that year. That means the chances of it hitting screens in the same year are slim (though there is a chance that it could always make its presence felt in December-time) but it does suggest that the show has indeed been renewed for season 3.

The second season saw the Hargreaves siblings attempt to right the wrongs of their actions in season 1 as they traveled back in time to prevent Vanya from causing the apocalypse – only to unwittingly set off a brand new apocalypse in the 1960s.

The third season will undoubtedly focus on the aftermath of their latest actions – which had a major impact on the timeline and created a new iteration of the Umbrella Academy named the Sparrow Academy instead.

Though it’s hard to get excited for this news until Netflix officially confirms the renewal, it does feel like we should prepare to dust off our celebratory umbrellas for The Umbrella Academy season 3.
