Arrow came to an end after eight seasons but it sounds like Oliver Queen himself, Stephen Amell, is ready for a ninth season.

Arrow made history when it launched TV’s most successful shared universe throughout its eight year stint on The CW. The show responsible for the Arrowverse and giving us the likes of The Flash, DC’s Legends of TomorrowBatwomanSupergirlBlack LightningStargirl and Superman and Lois concluded earlier this year with its eighth and final season.

The final adventure saw Oliver and his Team Arrow partners Black Canary and Spartan prepare for Crisis On Infinite Earths before the Emerald Archer sacrificed himself to save the multiverse in the unprecedented crossover. And the series finale of Arrow – which was watched by 700,000 people – saw the team pay tribute to the hero that saved billions upon billions of lives.

However, it sounds like star Stephen Amell would be up for bringing the show back to screens in the near-future.

Is Arrow season 9 happening?

Speaking to Smallville‘s Michael Rosenbaum on his Inside of You podcast (H/T: CheatSheet), he revealed that he had actually spoken to Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti about bringing the show back for a ninth season because he feared that co-stars may be unable to make it to Vancouver with everything happening in the world at the moment while he was already there for his new show Heels. He added:

"“I called Greg up and said … ‘Look I hope this doesn’t happen but if everything goes to sh*t and you guys can’t get actors up here because of issues about mostly American actors crossing into Canada, and if things can’t be figured out, here’s the deal man. I’m here and if I have to stay here, I want to work. If I’m going to work, let’s just figure out a way to bring Oliver back from the dead.’”"

Undoubtedly a major revelation from the Green Arrow himself, but what’s even more huge is the fact that Berlanti sounded like he would definitely be up for making Arrow season 9 happen. Amell revealed:

"“He goes, ‘Are you serious?’ I go, ‘Yeah, of course I’m f*cking serious. Again, I hope it doesn’t happen. But, can we at least put it on the radar?’ He goes, ‘Yeah, of course. Why not?’”"

Amell was involved in the decision to end the show, with speculation suggesting that he actually wanted it to end in the seventh season before he ultimately agreed to work a shorter eighth season, so it wouldn’t be too shocking if he were ultimately behind the decision to bring it back. He is, after all, a firm believe of “never say never”.

Whether or not it happens remains to be seen – especially considering The CW’s Arrowverse slate is nearly full at the moment, with Arrow spin-off Green Arrow and The Canaries seemingly still in development – but it would certainly be exciting to see the Emerald Archer rise once more in a ninth season.
