What does The Flash season 7 have in store for Iris West-Allen?

The Flash season 7 is weeks away. Granted, it’s still a number of weeks away, but now that we officially have a release date, we can prepare for what’s next for our favorite Flash/Arrowverse characters.

Season 6 was a memorable one for all involved as the Scarlet Speedster and his trusty Team Flash were forced to battle not one, not two but three enemies in Bloodwork, Black Hole and Mirror Master. And that’s not even taking the long-awaited Crisis On Infinite Earths into account!

But what’s ahead for our favorite characters? Where will The Flash season 7 end up taking them? Or perhaps more importantly, where should season 7 end up taking them? Interesting questions, no doubt, and ones we plan to explore in our character previews for the upcoming season (shoutout to our friends at One Chicago Center for the idea).

Let’s kick things off with our very own leading lady Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton).

Where we left off with Iris in season 6

Arguably no other character had quite as emotional a rollercoaster in The Flash‘s sixth season as Iris. Barry Allen’s lightning rod has found herself at the center of a number of the show’s major storylines before (remember Savitar?) but this time she wasn’t trapped in a time loop or forced to watch her loved ones suffer. In a way, she was experiencing a mixture of both.

Yes, Iris’ investigative journalism skills put her hot on the heels of Joseph Carver and McCulloch Tech, after which she discovered that Carver’s wife Eva was still alive. Unfortunately, that came at the cost of falling into the mirror dimension and getting trapped in there.

Throughout the second half of season 6, Iris had to watch her husband be affectionate towards an evil reflection of her as he was completely unaware of what happened to the real Iris. Though Barry soon figured it out, he wasn’t able to reunite with his beloved wife and the pair remained apart for the rest of the season.

Ever the reporter, Iris tracked down the two other characters trapped in the Mirrorverse, locating Kamilla at S.T.A.R. Labs (or should that be sbaL R.A.T.S.?). Before she could find Captain Singh, however, the neural dissonance took over and she seemingly disappeared.
