Aquaman 2 hasn’t been officially greenlit yet, but star Amber Heard is ‘excited to get started’ with shooting the sequel.

The first Aquaman film was a surprise hit for the DC Extended Universe in 2018. However, Warner Bros. has yet to officially give the greenlight for the sequel. Tentatively referred to as Aquaman 2, the sequel hasn’t begun production, nor does it have a confirmed cast or crew.

One cast member, though, is already looking ahead. Amber Heard, who played Atlantean hero Mera in the first film, is eyeing her return to the franchise. Speaking to EW, Heard believes that the amount of ‘fan love’ and appreciation for the film means that the sequel will take place.

"“Only the fans actually made Aquaman and Aquaman 2 happen. I’m excited to get started next year.”"

Aquaman 2: What do we know so far?

Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry/ Aquaman and Heard’s Mera were both introduced to audiences in the 2017 film Justice League. The characters then headlined their own film, which was directed by horror veteran James Wan, and featured Temuera Morrison and Nicole Kidman and Arthur’s parents, as well as Patrick Wilson (King Orm), Willem Dafoe (Vulko) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Manta.

The first Aquaman film was cheesy but refreshing with its main character facing racism and valiantly fighting against it. Meanwhile, Mera was a hero in her own right, using her wits and her powers to save the day. Despite speculation surrounding a possible recasting of her character, Heard feels that fans are excited to see the actors back in action again.

The scene-stealer of the first film was Wan’s visual aesthetic. One scene in particular—the Trench scene—captured the imaginations of many, leading to director Wan teasing that Aquaman 2 will add even more horror elements.

Though the status of the sequel remains unknown, Heard added that production may commence in 2021. Should the global situation abate, we can all hope that Aquaman 2 will receive an official greenlight from its studio.
