Wonder Woman 1984 to debut on HBO Max: Here’s what we know
Is Wonder Woman 1984 really heading to HBO Max?
The outbreak of the novel coronavirus has completely altered the movie release schedule in a way that nobody could have imagined. With theaters still closed around the globe, the cinema industry is struggling because of the constant reshuffling by studios in a bid to delay movies to a much safer time.
One movie to see multiple delays is Wonder Woman 1984 and that has left Warner Bros. unsure of how to proceed with the DCEU film.
Wonder Woman 1984 release date
Wonder Woman 1984 is currently scheduled for release on December 25, 2020.
The film was originally supposed to hit theaters back in November 2019 but, in the hopes of replicating Wonder Woman‘s success in 2017, the studio moved it to June 2020.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t able to open in the early summer because of everything happening in the world and it was subsequently delayed twice – first to August and then Christmas Day.
Will Wonder Woman 1984 be released on HBO Max?
There have been rumors that Wonder Woman 1984 will be released on WarnerMedia’s HBO Max streaming service instead of heading to theaters. According to a recent report by Bloomberg, however, there could be some truth to those rumors.
It seems that WarnerMedia plans on releasing the much-anticipated film to HBO Max a week or two after its cinematic debut in the hopes of driving up subscriptions to the new streamer.
Meanwhile, Deadline has weighed in, adding that this may not be the option WarnerMedia is heading towards as they could end up simultaneously releasing it in theaters and on HBO Max on Christmas Day. They also confirmed that Warner Bros. have ensured that the film will be in theaters regardless of what happens with HBO Max.
Wonder Woman 1984 is directed by Patty Jenkins and stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen.
