The Ugly: The final battle

In the end, it was Dani who defeated the Demon Bear. It may not have happened like this in the New Mutants‘ comics, but it made sense for her to defeat it here. However, that doesn’t make the final fight any less disappointing.

To make things clear, it felt like watching the final fight in the 2015 Fantastic Four. We waited the entire movie to see Magik use her powers and cut loose. That didn’t happen. Sure, she fought, but it wasn’t the big final fight we should have received.

Movie Rating: 3 out of 5

Is The New Mutants worth the money? In a word, yes. If you enjoy comic book movies, definitely see this project. The X-Men spin-off showed that the horror genre is something that can work in a comic book movie – a fact that still isn’t all that well-known.

So yes, if you rent it you won’t be upset. Is it worth the money to own, however? That’s a different story. While New Mutants will be part of this writer’s library, you may have buyer’s remorse if you spend $20 or more on it.

Other than the final fight, The New Mutants is enjoyable. There’s a good amount of comedy, horror, and drama. It’s also better than Dark Phoenix and X-Men: Apocalypse. That isn’t saying much, but it’s something. Go into New Mutants with an open mind, forget the overly aggressive reviews, and you’ll enjoy it as well.
