George Clooney to return as Batman in DCEU movie The Flash?
George Clooney has spoken about the possibility of him reprising his Batman and Robin role in Andy Muschietti’s The Flash.
Everybody has a favorite Batman. The Caped Crusader has a long and successful history on the silver screen and with so many beloved actors putting on the mask, it’s understandable that everyone gravitates towards one or the other. The most divisive Dark Knight, however, isn’t up for debate.
George Clooney’s role as the DC Comics hero in 1997’s Batman & Robin has gone down in infamy because of how much of a colorful letdown that movie proved to be, returning Batman to his camp days, underperforming at the box office and stalling the franchise for years.
The comic book movie landscape has changed significantly since then, with the Caped Crusader returning many times since. While Robert Pattinson will don the cowl in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, two icons of The Dark Knight will return in the DCEU movie The Flash.
Is George Clooney playing Batman in The Flash?
It was revealed during the summer that both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck would don their respective capes and cowls as their versions of Bruce Wayne/Batman in the 2022 Ezra Miller-led and Andy Muschietti-directed movie and that has understandably led to speculation that we might see the returns of other Batmen too.
Batman & Robin‘s George Clooney was asked by Empire if he would be appearing in the movie too and he responded with a laugh, adding:
"“It’s funny – you’ll notice they didn’t call me! Somehow I didn’t get that call. They did not ask for my nipples. Listen, there are certain things you never know. This one, I know.”"
Clooney has recently spoken about how he understands people’s negative response to the film and how even he felt underwhelmed by his performance in the movie.
In spite of the film he was involved in, many still believe he could have played an incredible version of the character if he had a different script and a much less campy production to work with. While that’s a solid possibility given how esteemed a performer he is, it’s hard to argue that the film made it impossible for him to shine.
The Flash is currently set for release on November 4, 2022.
