Hawkeye: Hailee Steinfeld finally confirmed as Kate Bishop in new images
By Scott Brown
In a confirmation over a year in the making, new images have confirmed who will be playing Kate Bishop in the upcoming Hawkeye series on Disney Plus.
In new set footage and photos, we have finally gotten our first look at Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop aka Hawkeye in the upcoming Disney Plus series set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These videos and photos don’t just feature Steinfeld though, they also give us our first glimpse at what Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton will look like in the series and well, it looks like he’s had better days. There’s also another important character that some may miss though and that’s Lucky the Pizza Dog who is a very good dog.
For those who don’t know who Kate Bishop is, you should change that soon, but here’s a quick intro to her character. First introduced in Young Avengers #1, she didn’t take on the mantle of Hawkeye until issue #12 of the series. The reason that she was able to take on the name is that Clint, at this point in the comic timeline, was very dead. Once he comes back to life though, he and Kate develop a strong friendship and end up sharing the mantle of Hawkeye.
Eventually, Kate moves out to Los Angeles, becomes a private investigator, and forms her own Avengers team, the West Coast Avengers.

So, with that basic history lesson out of the way, here’s come reading recommendations if you’re interested about inspirations for the series. The series seems to be taking most of its inspiration from Matt Fraction and David Aja’s fantastic Hawkeye run which is honestly a great starting point.

It does a great job of establishing Clint and Kate’s relationship, while allowing both of them to very much be their own people. Following that, you should check out Kelly Thompson and Leonardo Romero’s solo Kate Bishop title. It’s incredibly fun and if you’re not in love with Kate by the end of the first series, you’ll love her by issue #5 of this one.
On personal note, as a massive Kate Bishop fan, this writer will editorialize a bit and just say that Hailee Steinfeld is perfect casting for the role of Kate. There’s no one else that feels like they were born to play the best “walking disaster, but still way more competent than Clint Barton” archer there ever was.
