Black Widow star to return to MCU alongside other major stars in Marvel’s Hawkeye
By Scott Brown
Just a day after the first images of Kate Bishop surfaced, much of the rest of the cast has been announced for the upcoming Hawkeye series on Disney Plus.
After finally seeing Hailee Steinfeld visually be confirmed to be playing Kate Bishop due to set photos, Variety has released a report that exponentially expands the cast of Hawkeye. Variety officially confirms that, yes, Steinfeld will be playing Kate Bishop in the Disney Plus series, but that very much is not the crux of their report. They also revealed that Vera Farmiga (The Conjuring), Florence Pugh (Black Widow), Fra Fee (Les Misérables), Tony Dalton (Better Call Saul), Alaqua Cox, and Zhan McClarnon (Westworld) will also be joining the series.
Farmiga will be taking on the role Eleanor Bishop, Kate’s mother, in the series. As of now, it’s unclear how much of the comic backstory that series will be using regarding Kate’s relationship with her mom and dad, but the casting of Farmiga makes it clear that it will at least be addressed in some form. And hopefully the show will streamline some of the mess that is the Bishop family drama in the comics.
Pugh will be reprising her role as Yelena Belova from the upcoming Black Widow film. As many thought, Black Widow would be setting up for Yelena to carry on the mantle of Black Widow in the future of the MCU and if her casting here is indication, that will definitely be the case. It also seems like the series will set-up a new friendship for the new Hawkeye and Black Widow, echoing Clint and Natasha.

Fee will be playing a character named Kazi, which seems to be shortened from Kazimierz Kazimierczak, who most Hawkeye fans will recognize as Clown. Most notable for his use during the Fraction/Aja run of comics, his inclusion here seems to solidify that said run will be the main source material used for the show.
Dalton will be playing a character named Jack Duquesne, who in the comics is named Jacques Duquesne, but mainly goes by Swordsman. In the comics, Duquesne was originally a mentor for Clint Barton before Barton renounced his criminality leading them to become enemies.
Cox will be taking on the role of Maya Lopez, who is also known by her superhero name Echo. Originally created as an ally of Daredevil, Echo is a deaf woman of Native American descent who is able to copy anyone’s body movements. In the comics, she also had a brief relationship with Clint and was the one to pass on the Ronin mantle to him. McClarnon will be playing Maya’s father, William Lopez.
After no news on the upcoming Hawkeye series, it’s so nice to finally be getting this barrage of news for the much-anticipated series.
