8. Hi, I’m Danny Rand

Comic book project: Iron Fist

Where to begin with Netflix’s Iron Fist? There’s the slow build. It seemed to take forever for the show to get interesting. By the time that happened, fans had checked out. How about the writing? It’s obvious that the problem wasn’t Finn Jones. When Danny was in The Defenders and again season 2 of Luke Cage he was better than the entirety of both seasons of Iron Fist because he had a personality. There are other things that made this show disappointing though. Above all else is the power of the Iron Fist. So much potential and it’s not used creatively until the end of season two.

The Pirate Queen of Pinghai Bay Wu Ao-Shi could use her Iron Fist to shoot arrows like fire. Orson Randall could shoot chi bullets. Danny does this at the end of season 2. The last time we see Colleen Wing she extends her chi through her sword. There are a plethora of other things that the Iron Fist could do. A look into Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction’s Iron Fist run shows this.

Instead of innovative ways to use their powers, they punched the floor and created tremors. It wasn’t creative and got old quickly. The ending leads the audience to believe that the Iron Fist powers would be used better. Unfortunately, the show was canceled. Had they done this in the admittedly improved season 2, Iron Fist would have been much more fulfilling and, as a result, more popular.
