Superman and Lois will be bringing the Man of Steel to the Arrowverse full-time, but it seems that they’ll be moving ahead with a new version of a regular Supergirl villain.

It won’t be long until we finally get to witness the Man of Steel take to the skies of the Arrowverse on a full-time basis as Superman and Lois‘ arrival is imminent. The Supergirl spin-off is the latest to join The CW’s growing shared universe of superheroes and will star Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch – both of whom reprise their roles as Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane respectively.

The show promises to explore a new side of Superman’s story but it will also make itself at home in the incredibly vivid world of heroes that The CW has been building since Arrow debuted back in 2012.

While the Man of Steel will no doubt have his own villains to deal with, it seems that he’ll also be battling some familiar faces. Deadline has confirmed that the show has cast Tyrant‘s Adam Rayner as Morgan Edge.

What makes Rayner’s casting particularly curious is the fact that Morgan Edge was already a part of the Arrowverse as he recurred in previous seasons of Supergirl – in which he was portrayed by Adrian Pasdar.

Why has Superman and Lois recast Morgan Edge?

Morgan Edge’s recasting is a bit of a conundrum. Perhaps Pasdar was unavailable to reprise the role and thus, the spin-off had to recast him. The alternative is that the show is using Crisis On Infinite Earths to rewrite Morgan Edge’s story.

It’s also worth remembering that Supergirl‘s version of Edge was arrested and seemingly incarcerated after his insidious actions against Lena Luthor. So how can he suddenly return in Superman and Lois? Could Crisis have created a completely different version of the character so that the spin-off can tell its own stories with him?

The character was previously portrayed by Rutger Hauer and Patrick Bergin in Smallville.
