7. Justice League Dark by James Tynion IV, Ram V, Alvaro Martínez Bueno, Kyle Hotz, Amancay Nahuelpan

Justice League Dark is a comic series that, for whatever reason, no one seems to talk about – which is incredibly disappointing because it is a fantastic series. Even this year, where there was a relatively sudden turnover of writing duties from James Tynion IV to Ram V, the series managed to keep up its quality. And given that the story began with the first issue back in 2018, that’s a great thing. This is a series that brought new horrors into the DC universe and so much more. It’s also a series filled with great character work, terrifying monsters, and such a different vibe from the rest of DC Comics’ output.

Much of that vibe can be credited the incredibly mind-bending art that the series has held since the beginning. Series mainstay Alvaro Martínez Bueno only drew a few issues this year, but they were just as gorgeous as ever. Kyle Hotz also came in and drew a few issues in a style that is a perfect fit for a horror series such as this. But the real artistic MVP on the series this was Amancay Nahuelpan. He takes on the unenviable task of following up Martínez Bueno, yet he does so, and he does so incredibly well. He takes everything that Martínez Bueno did on the series and makes it his own, which is not an easy feat, making for another gorgeous year for Justice League Dark.
