5. Lois Lane: Enemy of the People by Greg Rucka & Mike Perkins

What do you get when an investigative journalism story is masquerading as a political thriller? Lois Lane: Enemy of the People is what you get. And just like Justice League Dark, this 12-issue maxiseries, which published its final six issues during 2020, hasn’t been talked about enough. Sure, it’s not necessarily writer Greg Rucka’s best work – that is a very high bar – but it’s still a fantastic read from beginning to end. Lois is written incredibly well in this series, as is Renee Montoya, aka The Question. These two make such a great pairing throughout this constantly changing series.

But the best thing about this series, its focus is set in issue 1 and as the series goes on, Lois adapts to the ever-changing world and circumstances, but the focus is not lost on the initial story that she is setting out to write. There are just a few wrinkles added along the way that you may not expect.

Plus, Mike Perkins’ art throughout the maxiseries is generally really great. His style is perfect for the tone and narrative that the series is going for, effectively creating a mood straight out of All the President’s Men and Three Days of the Condor. Perkins’ art sucks you into Lois Lane’s world and you never want to leave.
