The top 10 best Marvel and DC comics of 2020
By Scott Brown
4. Daredevil by Chip Zdarsky, Marco Checchetto, Jorge Fornés, Francesco Mobili, & Mike Hawthorne
It’s really, really difficult not to put Daredevil on a “Best of” list, no matter what kind of “Best of” list that it is. Daredevil has had phenomenal run after phenomenal run for nearly two decades and the same can absolutely be said about the series this year. Chip Zdarsky and crew really have struck magic once again with this series, and specifically with recent developments this year.
Somehow, as strong as this year of the most recent of Matt Murdock’s string of trials (literally) and tribulations have been, it’s possible next year may even be better. And yes, I’m talking about Elektra taking over as Daredevil for the time being. It’s really hard to think of the last time that Daredevil had a bad year.
The art throughout, especially issues drawn by Marco Checchetto and Jorge Fornés, are utterly gorgeous. Some of the issues of this series are up there with Elena Casagrande’s Black Widow and Mitch Gerads & Evan Shaner’s Strange Adventures when it comes to best-looking book of the year. The art quality drops a bit when not drawn by these two, but when they are on the book, it’s utterly gorgeous in every way possible, making great use of what one can do in a Daredevil comic.
