Why this project?

Every well-made project needs substance. Let’s take The Mandalorian for instance. Everyone loved Baby Yoda because Grogu was the cute little guy that ate weird stuff, did cute things, and force-choked bad guys. As much as we loved it, this wasn’t enough to sustain an entire series. No, Mando, Cara Dune, Greef Karga, and a host of other characters had to come in and engage the audience so that the overarching narrative would be strong enough to make the show as popular as it is. Thankfully, Doctor Aphra and her droids have enough personality, story and adventures in them to keep a show going.

"“I’m bad, but I’m not that brand of evil.”-Doctor Aphra"

Doctor Aphra isn’t Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, or Mando and that’s a good thing. The Star Wars universe needs more characters like her – someone who’s not motivated by the good of people, but by her own needs and wants. No redemption story, just her looking out for herself.

The truth is that the main character of a Star Wars TV shows doesn’t need to be a hero. We’ve seen how popular Walter White continues to be years after Breaking Bad concluded. An Aphra TV show on Disney Plus could adopt a similar approach by utilising a somewhat evil lead that everyone will somehow fall in love with. And in making us do so, Doctor Aphra could become exactly what the franchise needs in order to evolve.
