Riverdale season 5: Major break up confirmed for beloved couple
Riverdale season 5 is almost upon us and it has now been confirmed that a major breakup is on the horizon.
Riverdale season 5 is only days away and there is a lot of intrigue surrounding the fifth season of the long-running CW TV series. The storylines from season 4 will be carried over, the mysteries surrounding the Videotape Stalker and Mr. Honey’s apparent death will be wrapped up and a time-jump looms for our favorite Riverdale residents.
However, it seems that splitsville is also one of the destinations for a beloved Riverdale couple: Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) and Archie Andrews (KJ Apa).
Will Archie and Veronica break up in Riverdale season 5?
Deadline has revealed that Chris Mason will join the cast of Riverdale in a recurring capacity and that he will portray Veronica’s controlling and jealous husband Chad Gekko. Unfortunately that means that, yes, Veronica and Archie will be breaking up in Riverdale season 5.
Chad – who works on Wall Street – will reportedly find Veronica’s friendship with Archie unsatisfactory, leading to a lot of jealousy brewing there. He will make his debut in the fifth episode of the season, which will air on Wednesday, February 10.
Why are Archie and Veronica splitting up on Riverdale season 5?
Veronica and Archie will likely split up because the former found out about Archie’s kiss (and subsequent series of moments) with Betty Cooper. Fans speculated that the random almost-affair had a purpose and now we know it does as it will most certainly be the cause of Varchie’s split.
We know Veronica will discover the secret in the season 5 premiere, but we don’t know if the pair will attempt to reconcile or just call it quits. Also, we have to wonder what it means for Betty’s relationship with Jughead (a.k.a. Bughead).
Will Archie and Veronica get back together on Riverdale season 5?
While anything can happen on Riverdale, it’s more than likely that the pair will get back together in the future. Not only is “Varchie” clearly endgame, the fact that Veronica’s new “love story” has already happened off-screen automatically ensures that its shelf-life will be limited.
Rest assured, sooner or later “Varchie” shall return.
Riverdale returns to The CW for its season 5 premiere on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 8:00 p.m. ET.
