Is Swamp Thing returning?: The CW reveals the fate of Swamp Thing
Swamp Thing aired on The CW during the fall and fans have been asking the network to revive it ever since. Now the network has an update on the status of the show.
Swamp Thing enjoyed two incredibly successful runs since its debut. One was on the DC Universe streaming service; the other on The CW. Both, however, took place after it had been cancelled.
The show’s sudden and inexplicable cancellation on the streamer it was made for left fans shocked and confused but that didn’t stop it from enjoying a critically-acclaimed run on the service. Its TV debut – that came in the form of a “rerun” on The CW – gave those fans hope that the Arrowverse network would revive it. And this seemed all the more likely after it garnered the network its highest viewing figures since May.
Now, The CW has revealed whether they’ll be picking up Swamp Thing season 2.
Is Swamp Thing season 2 happening?
In an interview with Deadline, CW president Mark Pedowitz confirmed that Swamp Thing performed well digitally for The CW too but that its return for new original episodes is “unlikely”. Unfortunately, that seems to end speculation as to whether the show will return or not.
More from DC Universe
- New Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer pushes Arthur to his limits
- 7 actors who could replace Ezra Miller as The Flash in the DC Universe
- Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will have a battle pass (and that’s a bad sign)
- Harley Quinn renewed for a fifth season on Max (and it’s well-deserved)
- Batman: All 11 Batgirl actresses ranked from worst to best
However, Pedowitz suggested that we could see the Swamp Thing character, played by Derek Mears, show up in some capacity on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, adding that “it would be fun” but that he’s “not sure that would happen”.
That doesn’t entirely rule out HBO Max intervening since it has acquired all of DC Universe’s programming outside of Stargirl, especially now that it knows there is clearly still a demand for the show but since the sets have already been demolished, it’s probably unlikely – which, it goes without saying, is really unfortunate.
