Marvel: 10 things we must see from the MCU’s Wolverine
By Mark Lynch
10. A darker origin
Many people may not know this, but Wolverine made his debut at the end of The Incredible Hulk No. 180 back in 1974. He made his full debut in the next issue where he battled Hulk and Wendigo. In Wolverine Origins by Daniel Way, Logan’s origin was retconned. We found out that Logan was sent into that fight for nefarious reasons, primarily to impress Xavier. Having done that, he’d get close enough and kill Xavier. However, he was obviously unsuccessful as Xavier prevented Logan from killing him, then erased his memory to make Wolverine his weapon.
Xavier is another person in a long line of people that messed with Wolverine’s brain. A tragic story that would make for a heck of a beginning in the MCU. We start with Logan battling the Hulk only to find out that there’s an ulterior motive. Not only would we immediately get the fight we’ve been waiting for but it would play a huge role in Logan’s beginning.
We’ve never seen a beginning where the hero starts off as such a terrible person in the MCU. Wolverine being a brainwashed pawn could set the stage for a beautiful redemption story. Plus, we would get to see a proper origin play out before our eyes – not just a montage of Logan fighting in multiple wars. Moreover, having Xavier be part of this would reveal a different side of him. Something that may work out in future X-Men projects.
