Will Wonder Girl pilot get picked up by The CW?
Will the upcoming Arrowverse series, Wonder Girl go through to pilot season or will it be ordered straight-to-series?
It’s that time of year again where shows that have been greenlit go through to shooting their pilot episodes. Known affectionately as ‘Pilot season’, the television industry normally has the chance to shine with any greenlit television project. However, with the coronavirus pandemic still an issue, much of this year’s pilot season is in doubt yet again. It was significantly impacted last year as the pilots of incoming shows like Arrowverse newcomer Superman & Lois (which already had coincidentally been ordered straight-to-series) couldn’t be filmed.
Now, with the way things are in the world at the moment, Deadline is reporting that the upcoming Arrowverse series, Wonder Girl may be sent straight-to-series and may not end up going through to Pilot season. In the article, the CEO of The CW, Mark Pedowitz said the following:
"“First part of the answer is, I believe in pilots, I believe you see things in pilots.”"
It is his belief that pilots are important to get an understanding into what would be the ideal productions to air on television. However, the most important part is keeping casts and crews safe. If the world was back to any form of normalcy, it probably would go back to normal.

Pedowitz also stressed that while pilots are still likely to go ahead, it may turn into a financial issue.
The whole idea for the creation of broadcast development is to essentially replace content that is underperforming with something that is. However, given the current circumstances, The CW will continue to roll out their current programming while their newer upcoming shows will have to wait.
Of all the shows that are ending this year, Supergirl and Black Lightning will be likely be replaced with Wonder Girl and Naomi but Pedowitz cautioned it is too early to be calling out any frontrunners to what will be airing in the new year. Now, we just want to stress that Supergirl and Black Lightning are ending and have not been cancelled.
Moving back to Wonder Girl, do we think the series will go ahead, regardless of whether it has a pilot shot or not? We think so. The Arrowverse could benefit from a Wonder Woman-esque show. Before Arrow, The CW was looking at doing a Wonder Woman prequel series called Amazons but the network chose to take on a live-action retelling of the Green Arrow instead.
Do you think Wonder Girl will go straight-to-series or will get a pilot first? Will it be picked up at all? Sound off below!
