5. King Hyperion

Comic books: Exiles, Thunderbolts

It seems like no matter what universe he’s in, Hyperion’s power is almost insurmountable. On this particular Earth, however, it wasn’t almost.

It didn’t matter who he came across, he killed them: The Fantastic Four, X-Men, and even the Avengers with Thor all died by his hands. After every super-being that opposed him was dead, Hyperion proclaimed himself King of Earth. Eventually, the leaders of the world had enough. They attempted to kill him with nuclear weapons. That failed as well. Not only was Hyperion still alive, he killed everyone else in the world, leaving himself alone in the world.

This particular Earth was terrifying from the moment Hyperion started his conquest. Imagine being at home and seeing him on television. Your only hope was to be in one of the places that escaped his eye. Even then, the end result was the same. Everyone on Earth was killed. Hyperion did all of that to rule and he got his wish. Hyperion ruled the world, but there was nothing to lord over. In the end, he was defeated twice: Once by the Exiles (mostly Blink) and later by the Thunderbolts and Man-Thing. Both losses were incredibly satisfying.
