Who are May Calamawy and Ethan Hawke playing in Moon Knight?

Marvel Studios news has continued to come out with the bombshells as of late. We now know that Deadpool 3 is officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be rated R, rumors of Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers have made their way around the internet, and then there’s Disney Plus‘ Moon Knight – which suddenly seems that much closer now due to casting announcements.

May Calamawy has been cast to play a character in the Lunar Legionnaire’s program show while Ethan Hawke has also been added to the cast alongside Oscar Isaac.

We know that Oscar Isaac will be playing Moon Knight, but who are Calamawy and Hawke playing?

Who is May Calamawy playing in Moon Knight?

There is a possibility that May Calamawy could be playing Moon Knight character Scarlet Fasinera. A vigilante in the Moon Knight lore who has a connection to Khonshu – the same Egyptian Moon God that Marc Spector (Moon Knight) worships. With the rumors that Stained Glass Scarlet will be in Moon Knight, it’s a great pick for the show. However, this writer thinks otherwise. Calamawy could be playing Marc Spector’s partner and sometimes girlfriend Marlene Alraune.

As cool as it would be to see Stained Glass Scarlet, it’s more important to get Marlene’s role locked down. This writer has written how important it is for Marlene to be part of Moon Knight. Not just because she’s his love interest. That’s secondary. Marlene keeps Marc in check. She won’t stand for any of his pouting and self-deprecating habits. She will help him, but she’s not going to stick around and let him destroy her life.

Marlene is also a fighter. She goes on missions with Moon Knight and more than handles herself – a quality that’s needed when you’re hanging around with someone like Marc Spector or any of his other personalities.

Who is Ethan Hawke playing in Moon Knight?

Ethan Hawke in the role of the lead villain will undoubtedly bear a lot of fruit in Moon Knight. Some say that he could be playing Marc’s deity Khonshu – a being that some writers have portrayed as regal and others as a petty god who’s more than willing to let his avatar die to prove a point. There are also times when people aren’t sure that Khonshu even exists. Sometimes it seems like he’s in Marc’s head, making him appear crazier than he already is. Nonetheless, as good as Ethan Hawke would be in that role, he might be better suited to play Jack Russell Werewolf by Night.

Hawke could pull off the disheveled look needed to play the nomadic Jack Russell – a guy who sometimes fears what he will do to people he’s around. In Moon Knight No. 20 (written by Mike Benson) we were told a story of Moon Knight breaking up an illegal werewolf fighting ring. Jack Russell was captured and had his blood used to create lupine fighters out of homeless people. This wasn’t the first time the two entities have met, but it’s one that could be a great story to pull from.

Why these characters in Moon Knight?

Using these two characters would provide the show with a rich story that could indeed be told over an entire season. Moon Knight and Marlene could spend their debut searching for the ring and then tracking Jack Russell. This would also be a good way to showcase Marlene.

She helped Marc (who was using his Steven Grant persona) get access to the fight and bring his gear in. Along the way, someone found out what happens if you grab Marlene and he immediately regretted it. And in the face of a giant wolf, she didn’t get scared or shaky either – she fought.

These are the characters that Ethan Hawke and May Calamawy should play. If Moon Knight is going to be successful, casting important characters first is crucial. Whoever they play, it’s certain that Marvel Studios deserves our faith. They haven’t steered us wrong yet. Hopefully, this trend will continue.
