Major MCU star to make shock return in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Actor Don Cheadle has confirmed that Rhodey will be appearing in the Disney+ series starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan.
Don Cheadle has revealed that Rhodey will be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Disney Plus series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. The news comes from an interview Cheadle had with Brobible’s Post-Credit Podcast, where he discussed his own Disney+ show Armor Wars and the future of War Machine, which included the actor confirming his appearance.
During the interview, Cheadle commented on how fun it is to be a part of the shared universe crossovers and how the storylines from the movies and shows can intertwine:
"“That’s some of the fun of the MCU, that we all get to show up in each other’s stories, and there are ways that we’re cross-platforming these characters, and they become storylines, sometimes, in the movies. And then these storylines in the movies become storylines in the shows.”"
In carrying on that point, he then casually dropping the news about his appearance in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. He commented:
"“It’s really a fun and interesting and, by all imagination, completely open-ended — this can go anywhere. It’s great, I can’t wait to get in the room with the writers and figure out how all those things [connecting Armor Wars to the MCU] happen. You know, Rhodey shows up in Winter Soldier and Falcon’s show. So, it can be a lot.”"
How will War Machine appear in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier?
The confirmation of War Machine appearing in the series is a shock to fans, and while it is unclear exactly what role the character will play, it is likely the appearance will be utilised as a lead in to his own series Armor Wars.
Fans will be excited to see War Machine back in action, and how his character arc continues in the wake of Tony Stark’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame. Rhodey will have to deal with the issue of Stark’s technology being stolen in Armor Wars, with Cheadle confirming that the impact of Iron Man’s demise will be felt in the series.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is set for release on March 19, 2021. Don Cheadle will be seen alongside Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, as they take on the villainous Baron Zemo portrayed by Daniel Brühl and Wyatt Russell as John F. Walker (US Agent).
