Things look a little too familiar for Veronica Lodge in Riverdale season 5 post-time-jump.

Riverdale season 5 changed things monumentally in its most recent episode. The long-running CW TV drama brought about the end of an era when it wrapped up its four-year story – one that was supposed to end with season 4’s conclusion – when it had its primary characters graduate from high school. This set the stage for a time-jump that will take the show seven years into the future.

Next week’s episode, “Chapter Eighty: Purgatorio”, will see us catch up with the Riverdale High crew seven years after they last saw each other. Jughead will be a writer, Archie in the army and Betty an FBI agent. But what can we expect from Veronica Lodge?

Well, Riverdale star Camila Mendes made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and discussed the upcoming time-jump. During that, a new clip was unveiled, giving fans an inkling of what we can expect from Veronica in season 5. Watch it below:

What happens to Veronica Lodge in Riverdale season 5?

As revealed on The Tonight Show, Veronica will be married to Chad Gekko – a Wall Street businessman. A previously-released press release announcing the casting of Chris Mason in the role confirmed that he and Ronnie don’t have the most functional relationship and that he won’t take too kindly to her friendship with ex-boyfriend Archie Andrews.

As the pair converse over dinner and Veronica suggests she get more involved in her husband’s business life, it soon becomes abundantly clear that the pair’s relationship is eerily similar to that of Veronica’s parents. Much like Hiram often attempted to control his wife Hermione, Chad makes excuses as to why Veronica shouldn’t accompany him in his working life while, like her mother, Veronica makes a strong case as to why she should.

It’s unfortunate that, after battling her father on just about everything he ever threw her way, Veronica has ended up in a power-couple dynamic like the one her parents had. She’s powerful in theory, yes, but by the looks of things, not in a loving relationship. And that’s the antithesis of Veronica Lodge because she knows that real power comes from making the right choices and doing the right thing – not being the silent and oppressed partner in a power couple.

What a shame there isn’t a noble red-haired young man to whisk her away to small town norms like the one she could rely on seven years ago… oh wait.
