WandaVision Episode 5 left fans in need of answers. Is Peter Maximoff the new Pietro and are the X-Men coming to the MCU?

WandaVision is no stranger to leaving fans perplexed. The Marvel series has been leaving fans in awe since it first arrived on Disney Plus a number of weeks ago. The latest episode, however, took things to a whole new level.

Having brought up her brother Pietro Maximoff for the second time in three weeks, Wanda commented how he was far far away. She didn’t mention that the Avenger had been killed by Ultron in the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron.

However, before the episode concluded, Wanda and Vision had a visitor – A visitor that claimed to be her brother. This visitor looked familiar and left MCU fans in awe.

Who is Pietro/Peter Maximoff and how is he in WandaVision?

Portrayed by Evan Peters, Peter Maximoff is an alternate version of Pietro/Quicksilver. He appeared in the movies X-Men: Days of Future PastX-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

More from Disney Plus

As fans of the X-Men film series know, the Fox franchise takes place in an alternate continuity from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Naturally this has left all of us wondering as to how Peters; character exists in the MCU.

Though this week’s episode was all about the moral questions surrounding Wanda’s ability to bring someone back from the dead, the series has also subtextually made it clear that Wanda needs matter to manipulate (like Vision’s body) in order to make that happen. As she didn’t have Pietro’s body, that could explain why she subconsciously “recast” him with a new face.

Are the X-Men coming to the MCU?

Yes, the X-Men are coming to the MCU. It’s unknown when that will happen or if we’ll even see any of Evan Peters’ X-Men colleagues turn up in WandaVision alongside him.

However, now that Marvel Studios owns the rights to the X-Men characters – one of the reasons they were able to make this happen – the X-Men will make their presence felt at some point or another.

The likely option is that the MCU will reboot so that they will have their own original variations of the character but, with Evan Peters’ Peter Maximoff appearing just ahead of Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – both of which are expected to utilize the multiverse – who knows what could happen next.

WandaVision adds a new episode on Disney+ every Friday from midnight.
