WandaVision: What TV show inspired Episode 6?
WandaVision is known for taking its cues from legendary sitcoms, but which one inspired the sixth episode?
Since it began, WandaVision has been one big Marvel Easter Egg wrapped up in a bundle of other TV Easter Eggs. Due to its sitcom format, the Disney Plus series has paid tribute to a host of other TV shows throughout its run thus far.
The first episode was inspired by ’50s sitcoms like I Love Lucy, while the second took its cues from ’60s offerings like Bewitched. The third installment (and parts of the fourth) was inspired by TV shows from the ’70s like The Brady Bunch and The Partridge Family and last week’s fifth episode paid tribute to ’80s sitcoms like Family Ties and Full House.
Episode 6, titled “All-New Halloween Spooktacular!”, is now streaming on Disney+, so let’s find out where it got its inspiration from.
What sitcom is WandaVision Episode 6 based on?
WandaVision Episode 6 is inspired by Malcolm In The Middle. This is abundantly clear from the very beginning from its many references to the classic sitcom, starting with those opening titles. From the home video look to the loud and grungy music and the explosive font, the intro was one big homage to the series.
Malcolm in the Middle debuted on screens in 2000 but there were clearly still many ’90s elements to it – something that it made it the perfect inspiration for this week’s episode of WandaVision, which felt much more modernized than the previous installments.
Moreover, with Pietro Maximoff (Evan Peters) and both Billy and Tommy in the mix, there was more of a familial and ensemble approach to this week’s episode – another element that Malcolm In The Middle was renowned for.
Yet another great in the list of greats that continue to inspire WandaVision, who knows what sitcom Episode 7 will be based on.
You can catch WandaVision on Fridays at 12 a.m. PT on Disney+.
