The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is nearly upon us and fans are undoubtedly excited to see Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes unite in this new MCU adventure.

During Super Bowl Sunday, Disney Plus treated fans to a new trailer for the highly anticipated MCU series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and it only highlighted that Bucky and Sam are going to be the best on-screen duo of the year.

Don’t believe me? Let’s breakdown the trailer and talk about how these two will be serving buddy-cop on the small screen.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be the buddy cop adventure we need

The trailer begins with a debriefing session that Twitter has resorted to calling a “couples therapy session” as a joke. If we remember correctly, despite saving the world from Thanos, Bucky and Sam are still wanted fugitives because of the events in Captain America: Civil War. Judging by their wardrobe, they don’t look to be in prison. No, this looks more like questioning on the good side of the government.

Starting off with “Mr. Barnes, why does Sam aggravate you?” The clip cuts to the duo sitting in a plane, with Bucky asking Sam what the plan of attack was. Smiling and putting on his goggles, Sam jumps out of the aircraft with Buck unfazed on the aircraft.

After the title credits roll,  the moderator seems to have ended the debrief-meets-therapy-session. However, the two are sitting right in front of each other, with their legs in between each other, staring directly into each others eyes for… a staring contest?

Banter Banter Banter

In the first exclusive look, we got a little bit of the witty banter between the two towards the end of the trailer. Sam and Bucky walking on the side of the road, with Sam asking Bucky “What’s going on in that cyborg brain of yours… Gears turning. Oh – they’re malfunctioning! They’re on fire!” to which Bucky only responded, “I hate you.” This is the exact type of witty banter that fans like myself look forward to seeing in the show. Sam looks to feed off of Bucky’s somewhat mono-tonal one liners with comedic humor, which makes it all the more funny.

Flash-forward to the most recent look of the show, we see a fight taking place on top of a moving truck on a freeway, resulting in Bucky falling off it. Sam, ever so the comedian, flies over to the side of the truck where Bucky is clinging to the side of a metal pipe on the moving vehicle. After a beat, he shouts “That little girl kicked your a–!”, with Bucky yelling at him before the trailer cuts to title.

Loss of a Friend

On a more serious note,  the trailer appeared to have shown a memorial service for Steve Rogers. It might be safe to assume our beloved Steve has passed away.

In the first look trailer, Buck could see Sam was reluctant about carrying on the shield, saying  “People need something to get behind — they need a symbol.” In the latest trailer, we saw Sam toss the shield at a tree, and Bucky catching it right next to him. Losing a friend in that capacity is something that can really bring two people closer together. I have no doubt in my mind this is what could make them a stronger team, and strengthen their friendship.
