Monica’s blood cells

If you’re a comic book fan watching this show, you’ve also been wondering how Monica Rambeau could get her powers. Well, it seems this episode may have already told us.

In the original comics, Monica obtains them after she’s hit with an energy blast in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16. But in this series, it seems Monica being first pulled into and then expelled from the Hex has done a bit of tinkering to her body chemistry. Thanks to Darcy hacking into director Hayward’s top secret files, Monica learns that her blood contains a strange energy signature. Jimmy even thinks that if Monica passes through the Hex again, it could change her even further.

Speaking of Hayward’s files, it also appears we got some hard, albeit circumstantial, evidence that S.W.O.R.D. was secretly attempting to rebuild Vision as their own “Sentient Weapon” before Wanda stole his body. Aside from having a tracking device on Vision, the fact that Hayward has a file labeled “Cataract” is a smoking gun if there ever was one – because a cataract affects one’s vision.

Even Vision falling apart when tries leaving the Hex is another hint at this. It means S.W.O.R.D. didn’t just have Vision’s body, they completely dismantled him. This certainly looked to be the case based off of the security footage taken of Wanda from the last episode, which also comes from a storyline from the comics, as well. And the only conceivable reason to dismantle an android like Vision is to see how he worked and then put him back together again.

Now that Darcy is trapped inside the Hex, and Monica and Jimmy knowing Hayward is definitely covering something up, we may actually get some much needed answers next episode. Though I’m curious about Monica’s contact. Wouldn’t it be neat if her aerospace engineer friend turns out to be Reed Richards?
