DC’s Stargirl season 2 will officially cross over with the Arrowverse as The Flash’s John Wesley Shipp reprises his role as Jay Garrick.
DC’s Stargirl was one of the biggest TV hits of last season. The former DC Universe original series debuted on that streaming service on Monday mornings before airing on The CW the following night. It drew critical acclaim and high viewership for the latter network – which is really impressive considering it aired after each episode was already widely available.
The CW is, of course, the home of the Arrowverse, housing shows like The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Black Lightning, the upcoming Superman & Lois and the original Arrow. Now that Stargirl will be CW exclusive in its second season, it is expected to officially be welcomed into the Arrowverse umbrella as the network’s Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover already established it as an Arrowverse-adjacent series.
Now, however, it’s about to make its first step in that direction as a star of The Flash will be appearing on the show.
The Flash’s Jay Garrick will appear in Stargirl season 2
As revealed by Entertainment Weekly, John Wesley Shipp will be reprising his role as Jay Garrick on Stargirl season 2. The veteran performer will feature in the ninth episode of the season, portraying Garrick in a “pivotal flashback episode” that will establish “the Golden Age Flash as a member of Earth-2’s Justice Society of America”.
EW also notes that The CW has stated that this crossover will officially welcome Brec Bassinger’s Star-Spangled Girl into the Arrowverse – or, as the network now likes to put it, “The CWVerse” – alongside the other shows.
Shipp, of course, is best known for portraying Barry Allen/The Flash in the original The Flash TV series in 1990. He then appeared in The CW’s The Flash in a recurring role as Barry’s father, Henry Allen. After that, he began portraying Jay Garrick and he has since reprised his role as the classic ’90s Flash (of Earth-90) in a number of crossovers, appearing on episodes of Arrow and Supergirl.
