WandaVision usually mimics a classic sitcom or two. Which TV show was the inspiration behind Episode 7?

WandaVision has made a name for itself over the past couple of weeks with its shock twists and huge expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe stories. However, the Disney Plus series has also received a lot of attention because of how well it has paid homage to classic sitcoms.

With Wanda and Vision living in Westview as newlyweds, the pair were practically in their very own sitcom. The production of WandaVision has reflected that as each episode has referenced a number of sitcoms associated with the particular era it was trying to recreate.

The double premiere made references to sitcoms of the ’50s and ’60s while the third offering took us into the colorful world of the 1970s. As the fourth was more of a flashback episode in the main MCU timeline, the brief clips of Wanda and Vision remained in the ’70s before the next episode jumped to an ’80s-style sitcom. And then last week’s Halloween-themed ’90s-’00s offering was based on Malcom in the Middle.

Episode 7 has just arrived on Disney+, but where does it take its inspiration from?

What sitcom is WandaVision Episode 7 based on?

WandaVision Episode 7 is inspired by modern 2010s sitcoms like Modern Family and The Office. It did primarily take its cues from the former but that didn’t stop it from making references to offerings like The Office throughout.

Titled “Breaking the Fourth Wall”, Episode 7 did just that by having Wanda discuss her feelings and reflect on the events of the show thus far in a very mockumentary kind of way – much like Modern Family. She wasn’t the only one to do this as Vision, Darcy and Agnes all did it at one point or another as well.

The opening credits of the episode were undoubtedly inspired by The Office – with the shots of the town and the catchy theme paying homage to the classic sitcom.

You can catch WandaVision on Fridays at 12:00 a.m. PT and 3:00 a.m. ET on Disney+.
