30 great Deadpool moments for his 30 year anniversary
By Mark Lynch
3. Love at first sight
Comic book: Deadpool: Sins of the Past
Writers: Mark Waid
This was in the beginning of Deadpool’s Marvel Comics career. It was his second miniseries and the first time Wade was at a loss for words. Who could do such a thing? It was the mutant Theresa Maeve Rourke Cassidy a.k.a. Siryn.
Wade saw her and started stumbling over his words and whispering. He was smitten. As the story continued, she saw Wade’s face without his mask. She was shocked at first, but then touched his cheek. Her kind touch helped calm Wade down.
Wade meeting Siryn started his journey into becoming a hero. He started being good all for her. She believed that he could become a good person – so much so that she stood in between him and the man who tortured him in Weapon X. That faith in him helped Wade realize that he could do better and be better. If not for her, Wade wouldn’t be the person we see today.
2. Vanessa
Comic book: Deadpool No. 1, Deadpool No. 59
Writer: Joe Kelly, Frank Tieri
We know the story of Vanessa in the Deadpool movie, but the story in comic books isn’t quite as loving as that. Vanessa and Wade fell in love when Vanessa was a prostitute in Boston (Deadpool No. 1). When Wade found out he had cancer, he left her. Later, her mutant powers developed and she made Wade’s life Hell. She’d pop in and out of his life shapeshifting into different people. Wade knew it was her and didn’t care. After finding out Wade still loved Siryn, she left him.
Later, Vanessa’s time with Weapon X catches up with her. When she refused to work for them, they sent Wade to kill her. When he refused, Sabretooth and Kane were sent to kill them both. He did all he could to protect her, but failed. She was killed by Sabretooth. Her last words to Wade were that she’d always love him.
