Thanos had been transported from the past to the present. Instead of immediately attacking, he sent his time’s Nebula to retrieve the Infinity Stones and bring them to him. When she asked what he was going to do, he simply said, “Wait.” When Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man begin to approach the Mad Titan, he begins to speak. He mocks them in a way no other villain has. He speaks calmly. He says, “You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me”

This is the epitome of everything Thanos is. He rarely talks with any sense of urgency because he doesn’t need to. He’s the biggest dog in the yard, the undefeated Mad Titan. Why should he fear anyone? Especially when he knows he’s already won.

Watching him deliver that speech while three of Earth’s premier heroes walk towards him is what put this over the top. No shaking in his voice or concern that he was about to get into a fight. He talked with a tranquil voice as if he was sitting in a butterfly sanctuary. And, if we’re being honest, there was some truth to his words. In the end, it did come down to him yet again.
