Tony Stark must have the record for the best quotes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Everything he says is either funny or deep. He could probably find a way to read the phonebook and make it interesting. There’s one line that’s a step above them all. The one that defined him. That quote is, “I am Iron Man.”
The first time he said it in his press conference, it was humorous. Tony Stark was showing off. He had to let the world know that he was the man in the futuristic armor. As we saw (and expressed in a previous section), this put him in a new category. He wasn’t just a businessman. Tony Stark was now entering a new world.
Beyond becoming an Avenger, he put a target on his head. The U.S. Government wanted his suit and Whiplash came after him. Even Thanos knew who he was. Since his new life started with him saying, “I am Iron Man” it only fits that it would end with those words as well.
Thanos thought he’d won. He said that he was inevitable and snapped his fingers. Nothing happened. He looked over at Iron Man with shock in his eyes. He saw that Iron Man had the Infinity Stones. Tony Stark retorted to Thanos like only he could, “And I…am…Iron Man.” An appropriate end to the most important character in the MCU.
