With a new Superman film confirmed, we have a few casting suggestions for Warner Bros.

After months of speculation, we have official confirmation that a new Superman reboot is in the works. It was announced that JJ Abrams, the man behind the Star Wars sequel trilogy and the Star Trek reboot films, will be producing the film and it is unknown whether DCEU and Man of Steel star Henry Cavill will be reprising his role.

National Book Award winner Ta-Nehisi Coates will be penning the reboot, with rumors suggesting that the Superman in question will be a character of color.

The many faces of Superman in DC Comics

Superman in the DC Comics has primarily been the secret identity of Clark Kent, an alien from Krypton, whose real name is Kal-El – a character that has primarily been presented as a Caucasian man from Kansas. In the comics, though, there have been several alternate versions of the iconic superhero from other Earths in the multiverse.

One alternate version was Calvin Ellis (Kalel), the Black President on Earth-23. Val-Zod, the Superman from Earth-2, was another Black character introduced in the comics. And, of course, one of the Men of Steel who appeared after the death of Superman was John Henry Irons, or Steel. He is considered an off-shoot of the Kryptonian hero.

One could argue that what the world needs right now is to shake up the status quo. If Warner Bros. is rebooting the story of an immigrant from another world, then casting an actor who represents a wider expanse of the viewing audience is the natural next step. This would be in keeping with Sasha Calle being cast as Supergirl in The Flash, the first Latinx actor to take on the role.

It’s time for a different kind of Clark Kent to protect Metropolis and the world. So, who can Warner Bros. cast as the last son of Krypton? We have 10 suggestions.
