9. Eddie Brock becomes Captain Universe

Comic book: King in Black No. 4

It’s rare that you’ll find an evil being that actually manages to take over the world. There have been beings like Thanos, the Skrulls, and Galactus that have been worldwide threats, yes, but Knull has done something different. He encased Earth in a symbiote cocoon and used his symbiotest to take over. His dragons were causing damage while his symbiotes were controlling people. Even heroes like Cyclops, Captain America, and Storm were under his control.

Reed was looking for a way to stop Knull by figuring him out. His answer comes when he discovers that there was an opposite of him – a being that latched onto people much like Knull’s symbiotes. The opposite of Knull’s darkness is Captain Universe’s light – a light that attached itself to Eddie Brock.

Why is this important?

Eddie Brock died, but we knew that wouldn’t last forever. He was destined to destroy Knull. When there’s a symbiote threat, he’s usually the one in the middle or the one that helps save the day. Plus, it’s appropriate. Donny Cates started this Venom run with Eddie and continued it with Absolute Carnage. Now we’re at the end in King in Black. It’s only right that Eddie finishes it off.

Eddie Brock is also the best and most recognized Venom. If anyone but him or his son stopped Knull, it would have been disappointing.
