The Flash season 7 premiered on screens this week and it wasted little time killing off both a major DC Comics character and a major Flash character in a shocking twist.

The Flash sped its way back into our hearts and onto our screens this week as the longest-running Arrowverse show on the air returned to The CW for its seventh season.

Picking up where season 6 left off, “All’s Well That Ends Wells” reintroduced us to a Central City in complete chaos. Sue Dearbon was on the run with Ralph Dibny after she was framed for the murder of Joseph Carver while Eva McCulloch – the new Mirror Master/Mistress – unleashed her own reign of terror. And to make things that much worse, Barry Allen didn’t have enough of his speed left to stop her.

However, the episode also featured a brief but shocking death and a truly heartbreaking demise.

Who dies in The Flash season 7 premiere?

Mirror Master died in the season 7 premiere of The Flash. However, it’s not the one you’re thinking of! As revealed in the episode, the current Mirror Mistress, Eva McCulloch, killed previous Mirror Master Sam Scudder.

Scudder was portrayed by actor Grey Damon and appeared in two episodes of the show’s third season. United with his girlfriend Rosa Dillon (a.k.a. Top), Sam Scudder was a metahuman criminal that had a score to settle with Leonard Snart/Captain Cold. However, the pair were ultimately defeated by The Flash and Jesse Quick. The villains would later return in a now-erased future that saw Barry became a shell of himself after Iris was killed by Savitar.

Scudder’s death resulted in Rosa Dillon ending up in prison – with Ashley Rickards once again reprising the role – as Cecile Horton was drafted in to be her defense attorney, setting up one of the episode’s primary storylines.

However, Scudder wasn’t the only one who died, as Nash sacrificed himself so that Barry Allen’s Artificial Speed Force could provide the Scarlet Speedster with the speed he needed to return to being the hero that Central City needed. In doing so, he and the other Wells (Harry, H.R., Sherloque, Wells the Grey and others) all sacrificed themselves too.

In an incredibly emotional moment, all of the major Harrison Wells on the show (bar Eobard Thawne) bid farewell to Barry as they perished, perhaps bringing about the end of an era for many of The Flash‘s most beloved characters. And it was all capped off by an absolutely incredible performance from Tom Cavanagh – and indeed Grant Gustin.
