1. The Scarlet Witch

When Marvel Studios reveals something, they sure are careful to ensure that it’s a powerful moment. Agatha referring to Wanda as the Scarlet Witch is a clear example of this because, even though it was referring to something that we all already knew, the MCU was acknowledging something that it never had before. And that was Wanda’s true potential.

Wanda had never been referred to as the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before because of a licensing issue between Disney and Fox. The mutants’ movie rights were owned by Fox but the fact that Wanda and Pietro were also Avengers created a loophole that allowed Marvel Studios to use them in their movies. Unfortunately, their codenames didn’t come with loophole.

This, of course, is no longer an issue as Disney do own the rights now after the Fox merger, so the acknowledgement of that change through the use of the name is much more powerful. And what makes it even cooler is the fact that Marvel were totally meta about this in an earlier episode of WandaVision.

When documenting the events of the Westview anomaly, Director Tyler Hayward asked FBI Agent Jimmy Woo if Wanda had any codenames he should know about. Woo replied “No” because, at the time, she didn’t. Of course, when this went down, we all thought that it was just a quirky way of highlighting Hayward’s distaste for the idea of superheroes but now it’s clear that it was a tease of things to come.

Wanda does have a codename now and it’s the one we’ve all been waiting on. The Scarlet Witch is born.
