The Flash season 7’s latest episode was full of jaw-dropping moments but the original season 6 finale ended on a truly shocking note.

The Flash season 7 may have only aired three episodes thus far, but those episodes were effectively just the last three episodes of season 6. The previous season of the Arrowverse show was cut short by the production shutdown and, thus, its stories had to be completed at the beginning of the seventh.

The third episode of the season wrapped the show’s overlapping stories up and it paved the way for a bizarre cliffhanger that has left a number of Flash fans scratching their heads.

What does the ending of The Flash season 7, episode 3 really mean?

The episode, titled “Mother”, concluded with a flashback to 18 hours earlier when Barry Allen was running around the Speed Lab while Iris West-Allen powered the Fusion Sphere. Just as we saw earlier in the episode, the act was enough to give Barry his speed back. However, it also sent a charge of energy into the sky that rose up in the form of lightning and spread out in four different directions as it collided with the atmosphere.

As for what this could mean for The Flash season 7, well the answer is in the lightning bolts… or more specifically, the color of them. Each one matches the color of the different types of Forces in the comics.

Of course, the yellow lightning represents the Speed Force (which Barry has now seemingly recreated through his love for Iris and his friends and family). However, the blue represents the Sage Force, the red represents the Strength Force and the green represents the Still Force.

How these Forces factor into the show remains to be seen, but there is a possibility that the Speed Force bolt could end up producing the original version of Godspeed in this new timeline. We know the villain is coming back in a much more significant capacity this time around, so a lightning storm could be the very thing needed to bring him to the present (as it is what creates the character in the comics).

It’s also worth noting that this is the very same point in the very same sky that the Reverse-Flash was propelled into when he was expelled from Nash Wells’ body. Could this lightning storm reawaken Eobard Thawne himself? It does seem like Tom Cavanagh might need another character to play now that the original Harrison Wells has returned to a point in time in which he was happiest: With his beloved Tess Morgan.
