The Arrowverse show has pulled a major twist as it has been revealed that Kate Kane will return to Batwoman season 2 with Wallis Day replacing Ruby Rose as the character.

We have ourselves a new Batwoman… again… well, sort of.

Batwoman season 2 was all about finding Kate Kane. Ryan Wilder showed up in the season 2 premiere and took on the mantle of the Scarlet Knight to find the person responsible for killing her mother Cora. However, she took on the mantle when she found Kate Kane’s Batsuit after a plane crash seemingly killed the original hero.

However, after a clever bait-and-switch in this week’s episode, it was revealed that Kate Kane is very much alive. However, she won’t look like herself.

Batwoman recasts Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane

As revealed by TVLine, Kate Kane will be returning to Batwoman. This time, however, she will be portrayed by Krypton star Wallis Day.

More from Arrowverse

The role was originally played by Ruby Rose in the first season, with her departure sending shockwaves through the Arrowverse fandom. Though there were initial reports and rumors of a recast (with Day being the frontrunner), the show went in a different direction and brought in Javicia Leslie to play a new Batwoman in Ryan Wilder.

However, after spending the first half of the season dealing with Kate’s disappearance, it soon became clear that the show would need to address the original Scarlet Knight’s fate. And it looks like they are about to do with Wallis Day’s introduction.

How Kate will figure into the show remains to be seen, but it’s clear that Ryan Wilder will continue to be the primary Batwoman – and after the absolutely fantastic job Leslie has been doing, that’s exactly as it should be.

Nonetheless, it’s going to be very exciting to see the two Scarlet Knights meet for the first time.

Batwoman season 2 airs on The CW on Sunday nights at 8:00 p.m. ET and the next episode will feature a major Batman villain.
