A new Captain America will be introduced in June and his name is Aaron Fischer. An openly gay defender of the oppressed.

Representation is one of the most important things in any genre. Viewers and readers want to watch films and TV shows and read stories with people that look, act, and sound like them; characters that speak to them as a person. Comics books are no different as representation in that genre is equally as important. And Marvel Comics is continuing to do an amazing job creating characters that represent everyone.

Miles Morales, Kamala Khan, and America Chavez are only a few characters that have been introduced over the last 10 years, highlighting Marvel’s passion for inclusivity. We’ve also had a strong push for Shang-Chi this year. Thankfully, Marvel isn’t stopping there because in June, an LGBTQ+ Captain America will make his debut from creators Joshua Trujillo and Jan Bazaldua.

Comicbook.com reports that The United States Of Captain America will follow Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson, and John Walker looking for Captain America’s shield across America. Along the way, they’ll meet others who have taken up the mantle of Captain America. Considering that Steve Rogers has been an inspiration to many, it’s not shocking that others have taken the name. In issue No.1, we’ll meet one of them. His name is Aaron Fischer.

Who is Aaron Fischer, the new Captain America?

Aaron Fischer is Marvel’s first LGBTQ+ Captain America. It’s clear that his introduction is done with pure love behind it and that’s always the right way to make a change because, with those pure intentions to inspire and reach out to people behind it, game-changing projects like this tend to do better. And you can certainly feel the passion behind the creator’s work.

Reading what  Joshua Trujillo and Jan Bazaldua said in a press release lets this writer know that they love what they created. Comicbook.com reports Joshua Trujillo said,

"“Aaron is inspired by heroes of the queer community: activists, leaders, and everyday folks pushing for a better life. He stands for the oppressed, and the forgotten. I hope his debut story resonates with readers, and helps inspire the next generation of heroes.”"

Jan Bazaldua had an inspirational comment about designing Aaron Fischer saying,

"“I really enjoyed designing him, and as a transgender person, I am happy to be able to present an openly gay person who admires Captain America and fights against evil to help those who are almost invisible to society. While I was drawing him, I thought, well, Cap fights against super-powerful beings and saves the world almost always, but Aaron helps those who walk alone in the street with problems that they face every day. I hope people like the end result!”"

Anyone who understands the character of Steve Rogers knows that he’ll be proud of Aaron Fischer. Cap stands up for people who can’t stand up for themselves and he defends a belief of equality and, by the sounds of things, that’s exactly who Aaron Fischer is too. And that kind of love and positivity can rise above anything.

This writer is all for Aaron Fischer’s introduction and what he represents. Hopefully, this won’t be the only time we see him. It’ll be great to have more LGBTQ+ characters in comic books.
