Showrunner Eric Wallace teases the return of a villain from the first three seasons in The Flash season 7.

With Graphic Novel No. 2 having drawn to a close, showrunner Eric Wallace has teased the return of an early villain in The Flash season 7.

Due to the global pandemic, the sixth season of the Arrowverse show concluded with an impromptu season finale totalling up to nineteen episodes. Those remaining episodes, two of which did not get filmed until production resumed with safety protocols in place, have now aired on screens as part of season 7. Graphic Novel No. 3 is now set to kick off in the aftermath of the Mirrorverse arc.

In an interview from TVLine, Wallace discussed the show’s seventh season (which already had Ashley Rickards’ The Top return in its season opener) and he teased the possibility of another major villain showing up in the next arc. He commented:

"“I would not rule out another big villain from the first three seasons — one of my all-time favorites — to appear in Graphic Novel No. 3.”"

Is Zoom the villain in The Flash season 7?

While Godspeed (the real culprit behind the mask, that is) and the Reverse-Flash are both likely to to show up at some point throughout The Flash season 7, the idea of another classic villain appearing is an exciting one.

The most likely choices are, of course, Zoom and Savitar (given that Thawne is almost certain to make his presence felt). Hunter Zolomon aka Zoom was an incredibly popular villain and fans have been longing to see Teddy Sears reprise the role. However, Wallace has since confirmed that, although Zoom is not the villain he was teasing, he is planning on bringing the season 2 Big Bad back in some capacity in the future.

It remains uncertain as to which character Wallace could be referring to as the major returnee but with the new arc starting with the upcoming fourth episode of this season, it hopefully won’t be long until we find out. Maybe it is Abra Kadabra (David Dastmalchian) who is set to appear in that fourth episode!

The Flash season 7 stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Nicolet, Efrat Dor, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin, Brandon McKnight and Kayla Compton.

The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8.00 p.m. ET on The CW.
