The latest episode of The Flash season 7 made reference to a future threat known as the Chronarch, but do they actually exist in DC Comics?

The Flash season 7 is underway. The CW’s longest-running active Arrowverse/superhero show returned to the network for its season 7 premiere a number of weeks back but that episode and the two that followed were tasked with tying up the overarching plot points of season 6. The fourth episode, however, served as the official season premiere, launching season 7’s storylines.

Abra Kadabra showed up with a plan to destroy the Scarlet Speedster and even though it didn’t go to plan for him, he did suggest that Barry Allen should worry about a future threat, telling him that he would soon face the wrath of the Chronarch.

What is the Chronarch in DC Comics and are they coming to The Flash season 7?

In DC Comics, the Chronarch are the rulers of the 64th Century. They ran things pretty strictly and this didn’t sit too well with Abra Kadabra and thus he managed to use his incredible powers to rebel against them, proving himself to be a deadly adversary. The result of that was his banishment to the 20th century – which results in him crossing the paths of many of our beloved DC Comics heroes (including, of course, The Flash).

We know that David Dastmalchian’s Abra Kadabra on the TV series is from the 64th Century, so his name-dropping the rulers of his time shouldn’t be too out there. However, the fact that he has referenced future events before proves that he does have knowledge on what is going to happen. So was this just a reference to the leaders of his time or does he know that Barry Allen will eventually cross paths with them?

The thing that makes this really significant is that Abra Kadabra has a bit of reputation for teasing what’s to come. Remember during his appearance back in season 3, he referred to DeVoe – who would ultimately become Season 4’s primary villain. If Godspeed is indeed the primary villain of the first half of the season, could the Chronarch surface in the second? Maybe they didn’t take too kindly to Barry’s actions in Crisis On Infinite Earths or perhaps they just grew tired of shouting “Damn it, Barry!” everytime he screwed up the timeline in the first three seasons.

Either way, don’t be surprised if the Chronarch surfaces in The Flash season 7.

The Flash season 7 airs on The CW on Tuesday nights at 8:00 p.m. ET.
