Godzilla vs. Kong made an explosive debut on HBO Max and in theaters, leaving fans wondering what is next for Legendary’s MonsterVerse.

Godzilla vs. Kong is finally here. The two most famous movie monsters of all time collide on the big screen in the long-awaited fourth offering in Legendary’s MonsterVerse and it has fans very excited.

While it was released theatrically internationally, the monster smackdown’s U.S. release was accompanied by its debut on Warner Bros. streaming service HBO Max. The continuation of a deal Warner crafted for the release of Wonder Woman 1984, it will see them bring their entire 2021 film slate to the digital platform.

Now that Godzilla vs. Kong has arrived, monster movie fans are eager to find out if there will be a sequel or another installment in the MonsterVerse.

Below, you’ll find all the up-to-date information you need about Godzilla vs. Kong 2/the next MonsterVerse sequel, its release date, its cast, any trailers and more.

Will there be a sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong?

It’s currently unknown if there will be a sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong. That film was a sequel to 2014’s Godzilla, 2017’s Kong: Skull Island and 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters and it’s clear that it was all building to a showdown between the pair of Titans. What happens next remains to be seen.

A fifth MonsterVerse movie has not yet been discussed and the likely reason for that is down to the fact that, in spite of great box office performances from both Godzilla and Skull IslandKing of the Monsters underperformed. As a result, Godzilla vs. Kong was delayed while the studios ensured it was the best that it could possibly be.

Right now, the film’s impressive box office performance during these uncertain times proves that there still clearly is a demand for these monster movie showdowns. That’s certainly a good sign for the future of the MonsterVerse because GvK‘s director Adam Wingard suggested that we would see more entries if the film is super successful and the fan enthusiasm is there.

Godzilla vs. Kong sequel release date

As it has yet to be confirmed as to whether Godzilla vs. Kong will be getting a sequel, there is currently no release date for a fifth movie right now. Hypothetically speaking, however, if the studios were to greenlight a new film, it probably wouldn’t be released until at least 2023.

Godzilla vs. Kong sequel cast

As each of the MonsterVerse movies have had their own unique casts, it’s unlikely that a fifth installment would feature any familiar faces. That being said, don’t be surprised if Millie Bobby Brown or Kyle Chandler were to pop up again as they have appeared in both Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong.

What would a Godzilla vs. Kong sequel be about?

At this point, it is hard to tell what a fifth MonsterVerse movie would be about. It definitely feels like Godzilla vs. Kong is the endgame of the franchise because you simply can’t get any bigger than those two. However, there were rumors that the studios would look into incorporating other movie monsters into the franchise at some point.

Whether there is another Godzilla or King Kong sequel, continuing the franchise with a new series of monsters might be the way forward. Then again, no other movie monster carries the prestige of Godzilla and Kong.
