2. Captain America
When fans knew that Chris Evans’ days as Captain America were numbered, people speculated on who would be the next hero to wield the shield. After Steve Rogers died in Marvel Comics, Bucky was the next Captain America. Later, when Steve Rogers aged to an old man, Sam Wilson took up the mantle.
A logical choice going forward, Sam Wilson had been Cap’s partner for decades and understood his values better than anyone. Since Bucky was back to being Winter Soldier and doing clandestine (and sometimes illegal) missions, he couldn’t be Captain America. The public wouldn’t allow this to happen. It’s shocking that they aren’t upset that he was Cap previously.
1. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Here we are in the present. Sam and Bucky had a miniseries in Marvel Comics titled Falcon & Winter Soldier – during which they had a relationship that mirrored a lot of what we’re seeing in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV show. It’s great that we’re seeing their dynamic explored in the comics and not just in their own miniseries as they popped up in Matthew Rosenberg’s Hawkeye: Freefall too.
Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes are gold and Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan’s chemistry bring the Disney Plus series together perfectly. We’ve seen their friendship evolve in the movies and now we’re seeing it do the same in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Hopefully, this won’t be a one-off thing. Thankfully, the buzz around the show makes it seem like we’ll be getting more of this duo going forward.
