5. The Wakanda Flashback
The episode starts off strong, flashing back to before the events of Avengers: Infinity War, as Bucky attempts to break free from his HYDRA brainwashing with the help of Ayo. This scene involves the member of the Dora Milaje as she attempts to use the words HYDRA and Zemo used to take control of Bucky’s mind. As it is discovered, the words have no effect on Bucky anymore, with Ayo declaring that the former Winter Soldier is now free of his mind control.
This results in Bucky breaking down in tears of joy because, after all these years, he is finally free. His gratitude is shown when the scene flashes back to the present, making it instantly evident that Bucky has a huge respect for Ayo, Shuri and the rest of Wakanda.
Bucky’s time in Wakanda was largely skipped past throughout Marvel’s past projects, leading to this scene giving some insight into the future interactions between the pair and how Ayo feels betrayed by Bucky’s protection of Zemo and how the character came to respect the Wakandan people.
Hopefully this scene is a sign of things to come and we receive some more scenes of Bucky’s time spent in Wakanda, which could potentially lead to a future appearance in a Black Panther property such as the Wakanda Disney Plus series.
