4. Sam and Karli’s first meeting

Throughout the entirety of the episode, Sam pleads Karli’s (leader of the Flag Smashers) case to both Zemo and Bucky. Sam understands Karli’s cause and believes it is just, however he does not approve of her methods and the violence she has used to make her cause known. After the violent incident during the third episode, Sam decides to try and approach Karli in order to deal with the situation without resorting to violence.

Seeing the pair interact after Donya’s funeral was a touching moment, showcasing what they share in common. Sam manages to even get through to Karli and makes her question herself and the actions she has committed. However, the intrusion of John Walker makes her lose that trust momentarily, before the pair later engage in a massive fight in the final act of the episode.

While it is unclear what Karli’s fate will be by the end of the series, Marvel has done an excellent job at making her both a formidable threat and sympathetic individual at the same time, further showcasing that the MCU has overcome the problem it has had in the past with the portrayal of its villains.

There may not be a positive ending for Karli, however fans will mourn her loss if she doesn’t survive the series’ conclusion, thanks to scenes like this one.
