3. Zemo destroys the Super Soldier Serum

Helmut Zemo has instantly become a fan-favorite character during his apperance in the show. Daniel Bruhl’s portrayal of the character alongside his chemistry Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie is being heralded as one of the best parts of the show as the trio are giving MCU fans one of the most unexpectedly brilliant dynamics they’ve ever seen.

However, while fans constantly waited for Zemo’s betrayal, they were instead treated to the character doing something that could actually be viewed as quite noble: Destroying the Super Soldier Serum so that there would be no more deadly super soldiers.

While he had the terrible intent to kill Karli and destroy superheroes, Zemo proved that, even when faced with temptation to enhance his own cause, the Baron does not walk away from his morals. This is showcased when Zemo discovers the vials of Super Soldier Serum that were dropped by Karli and the Flag Smashers. The character had the option to take the serum, however he chose to dispose of it and destroy all the remaining vials that he could see.

This brief scene added so much to Zemo’s character, showcasing the character’s ideology and his willingness to be brutal and swift in order to complete his goals. While he could have focused on killing Karli, he saw a greater means to an end by destroying the Super Soldier Serum. The sequence may not be the most exciting scene of the episode, however it does a lot to build Zemo’s character and set up Walker’s decision to become a Super Soldier.
